ARC Review: The Assassin's Curse

Monday, September 17, 2012

Title: The Assassin's Curse
Author: Cassandra Rose Clarke
Genre/s: Fantasy, Romance, Paranormal

Synopsis:

Ananna of the Tanarau abandons ship when her parents try to marry her off to an allying pirate clan: she wants to captain her own boat, not serve as second-in-command to her handsome yet clueless fiance. But her escape has dire consequences when she learns the scorned clan has sent an assassin after her.

And when the assassin, Naji, finally catches up with her, things get even worse. Ananna inadvertently triggers a nasty curse — with a life-altering result. Now Ananna and Naji are forced to become uneasy allies as they work together to break the curse and return their lives back to normal. Or at least as normal as the lives of a pirate and an assassin can be.

My Thoughts:

The Assassin's Curse started with Ananna as she prepared herself to meet her soon-to-be husband, Tarrin. To make it short, their first meeting did not go well, so Annana decided to runaway. But before she could leave, Tarrin threatened her that his father will hire an assassin to kill her.

After a few days, Annana proved that the threat was indeed true. She met the assassin face to face. Annana put up a good fight but the assassin was too strong, he almost killed her. But before Naji(the assassin) could finish his job, something unexpected happen.

Annana saved Naji's life which activated an impossible curse that binds them together. So Naji, whose supposed to kill her, now became her personal bodyguard.

Okay, who would have thought that pirates, assassins and magic can be put together in one story. Just the thought of one of those things is enough to make me interested in it. What more if they were combined.

The Assasin's Curse is full of adventures, full of magic, full of struggles and a tiny bit of romance. I wish there was more romance between Naji and Annana and also I wish it wasn't one-sided.

I liked it from the beginning until the middle part. Unfortunately, the ending was too abrupt for me.

So overall, it was a nice read. I liked it but I would have liked it even more if it wasn't for the ending.
