Design Your Lunar Insignia Contest Entry

Monday, October 07, 2013
Marissa Meyer recently announced a new creativity contest in which you have to design the Lunar Insignia for a chance to win a signed ARC of Cress, a signed UK edition of Scarlet and awesome swags. Go to her blog for more information click here.

If you read the Lunar Chronicles, you're probably as eager and as hungry as I am to have this book. So if I were you, I wouldn't let this opportunity pass by without even trying. Anyway, without further ado, I am presenting to you my entry for the Design the Lunar Insignia Contest.

I decided to create the moon in its crescent phase, because it symbolizes growth. Crescent literally means "to grow" or "increasing" which I think, greatly applies to the Lunars' plan to expand and invade the Earthens. The crown on top of the moon symbolizes the sovereignty and power of the Royal Family over the entire Lunar Empire. We can obviously see the evidence of that power in Queen Levana's way of ruling.(Ha!) The tribal design at the bottom symbolizes the courage and strength that I think, is innate in every Lunars. And lastly, the letter L at the center stands for Luna.

I tried using colors in my first few sketches but it doesn't look good. Or more likely, I suck at coloring that's why, graphite is always my medium of choice when it comes to this type of contest. I also use black gel pen for the intricate lines and that's it.

What do you think about my version of the Lunar Insignia? Did I make the right decision in making it black and white? Or should I put colors in it to make it pop? Do you have any suggestions on what colors I should put in it? I'd love to hear your opinions.
